You will develop the knowledge and skills required to work as a counsellor with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling practices and techniques. This includes learning how to start a relationship and build rapport with clients and how to support your clients and hold space for them to explore and work on issues. You will also learn a lot about yourself and be trained in interpersonal communication skills.
A number of the core-counselling units of competency will involve working with the horses, allowing you to develop a confident proficiency in Equine Assisted Therapy and horse handling.
You will also learn how to supervise and support your clients handling horses and how to maintain safety and integrity for your client, your horse and yourself.
