If you already have a nationally recognised qualification in Counselling, Psychology or Psychotherapy, we offer our Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Course for you. The course involves the theory and practice of equine assisted therapy as well as equine handling skills. The course will cover all aspects of equine assisted therapy including working with individuals- adults, teens, children and working with groups. You will learn how to create programs to cater to different individual and group needs. The course will explore different models of equine assisted therapy and learning and you will have plenty of time to apply the theory in practice. Class sizes are kept small to ensure optimum learning environments and guarantee all students receive individualised, in-depth learning and support.

Course Length

We offer two options for completing the course. You must choose one option.

Option 1: The course is completed in 12 months with monthly, 3 day, face to face workshops as well as  self directed study. The 3 day workshops will occur on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 8.30- 4.30pm. All 3 days must be attended throughout the course.

Option 2: The course is completed in 12 months with 6 regular, 6 day workshops approximately 6 weeks apart as well as  self directed study. The six day workshops will occur from Saturday until Thursday from 8.30- 4.30pm. All workshops must be attended throughout the course.

ET 2- Safety and ethical considerations in equine assisted therapy
ET 3- Developing an equine assisted therapy practice
ET 4- Theoretical perspectives and current research in equine assisted therapy
ET Trauma- Safe trauma based practice in equine assisted therapy
ET Groups- Equine assisted therapy with groups
ET Kids/ teens- Equine assisted therapy with kids/ teens

The following units are Nationally Recognised training units:

SISOEQO201A- Handle Horses
AHCHBR203A- Provide daily care for horses
SISOEQO317- Supervise Horse Handling
CHCGRP002- Plan and Conduct Group Activities and
CHCGRP004- Deliver Structured Programs.

Qualification

Upon the successful completion of this course, students receive a Nationally Recognised- Statement of Attainment for the units of competency

CHCGRP002- Plan and Conduct Group Activities and
CHCGRP004- Deliver Structured Programs.

Students also receive a Certificate of completion from Equine Assisted Therapy Australia for the equine assisted therapy component of the course.

Entry criteria/ pre-requisites:

Students must possess a qualification in counselling, psychotherapy or psychology to at least Diploma level. Each prospective student will participate in an evaluative interview, which is an integral part of his or her application. On completion of the personal interview, Equine Assisted Therapy Australia will use the holistic information submitted to determine if the course is suitable for the applicant and whether it accommodates his or her learning needs.

Location

Training and assessment take place at our private facility in the Tallebudgera Valley, on the Gold Coast.

Assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course and includes practical activities and trials, written question and answers, case studies, and written assignments.
